Victoria Wood

It’s only April, and 2016 has already cruelly taken away so many talented and influential people: David Bowie, Ronnie Corbett, Alan Rickman, Prince, Harper Lee and Glenn Frey to name but a few, but the news that made me most sad was the passing of Victoria Wood.

As I may drunkenly tell you, it is my dream to meet every main cast member of the late 1990s sitcom Dinnerladies. I went to school with Andrew Dunn’s son and met him in Tesco, I met Celia Imrie in the street in Cowes where she was raising money for the RNLI, but I will never now meet the writer and star, Victoria Wood. Even though it only ran for two seasons, Dinnerladies found a special place in my heart, due to the warmth and welcoming feel. The character progression was wonderful, all the characters were made to be so loveable, and love them I do.

Victoria Wood was an extremely talented writer, actress and comedian, she’s a great role model and an absolute inspiration for me, may she rest in peace.
